Free lectures helps you explore Hawaiian Culture on Your Hawaiian honeymoon.

Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort is sponsoring a series of free lectures that discuss Hawaiian culture, history and tradition. The lectures are open to the public and will be presented at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort and at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

The lectures will be presented by an assortment of prominent Hawaiian scholars and include a variety of topics such as archaeology, the lunar calendar and honoring traditional values. The lecture series hopes to provide the community with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Hawaiian culture.

Upcoming lectures offered at Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort include:

•“A Sociopolitical History of Hawaiian Archaeology” by Hawaiian archaeologist Kathy Kawelu, Oct. 18, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort.

•“Honoring Traditional Values and Becoming People of Place, Caring for Place” by Neil Hannahs, director of Land Assets Division, Kamehameha Schools, Nov. 16, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort.

•Concept of Hanai: “Through Namaka’s Eyes — The Life of Patience Bacon” by Patience Namaka Bacon, Nov. 30, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort.

•“Kulana Mahina, The Hawaiian Lunar Calendar” by cultural practitioner and educator Kalei Tsuha, Jan. 25, 2008, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort.

•“The Northwest Hawaiian Islands” by Scott Kekuewa Kikiloi, Feb. 15, 2008, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort.

•“Hawaiian Perspective of the Environment and Kumulipo” by Rubellite Kawena Johnson, March 1, 2008, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort.

•“Kauikeaouli (Kamehameha III)” by Dr. Jonathan Osorio, professor of the Kamakakuokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, March 14, 2008, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort.

•“Historical Documents, Maps & Images” by cultural historian Kepa Maly, April 18, 2008, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort.
